My Story

I started swimming first. I jumped into the pool my freshman year of high school with ZERO experience. I couldn’t swim. I knew how to not drown, and that was pretty much it. I was a competitive swimmer for two years, before realizing that in order to get really, really good in the water it would take out everything I loved about the sport. So, to my coach’s dismay, I stopped that portion of it all. I still went to practice every day, I still got short tempered with the people who wouldn’t do their sets, but I was there to get and stay fit.

My junior year something strange happened. My mother got me into running. About three months after that my dad got me my first road bike, a Gary Fischer bike that might still make an appearance here and there as it’s my only real road bike, and I only recently upgraded. I did my first half marathon at the end of my junior year.

All of senior year I dabbled in the three, really wanting to jump into triathlon, but not really knowing how.

And then I went to college. I pretty much zeroed in on the tri team before I even went to orientation. I waited until what we have called ‘Get on Board Day’, which is where all the clubs at the school set up a table on the quad and advertise themselves. I remember making a beeline straight for the tri team table, even though I had a really hard time finding it. I even missed all the free things from big companies and all the free T Shirts that were being given out! That’s how focused I was on getting to the team! Haha! Yes, I did go back and get everything. I walked away with quite the goodie bag. :]

Anyway, since then I’ve been racing with the team for a year now. I’m starting my second year of triathlon racing.

My background in swimming means that if anyone wants to talk about that, wants advice on stroke work, whatever, I’m more than happy to offer suggestions. :’D

Or if they’re worried about jumping into triathlon, feel more than free to talk to me! I’m happy to share what little knowledge I have! And I’m always happy to go talk to my coaches about anything I’m not sure of. :]
