Accident Prone
Seriously? Can I not get through something without getting hurt?
I’ve been rehearsing for my ballet studio’s production of The Nutcracker for MONTHS now. I’ve been on and off for surgeries and school and junk but I’ve had a lot to do — I have 6 parts after all.
So I get to stage rehearsals and the floors are new and very very slippery. What do I do? I do a pretty leap to center stage, don’t stick the landing, fall with all my weight on a part of my foot that is obviously not used to supporting any weight at all, and collapse into a sobbing mess of tule on stage.
Everyone sort of freaked out but I got backstage and iced it so it didn’t swell too much. It startled me more than anything because I already took something to calm a fever and was fighting nausea every time I came off stage. Turns out my ankle is fine, but the whole front of my foot swells if I don’t ice it between acts. I’ve been using a heating pad because it hurts a lot less when my muscles are warm.
I did both school performances today EN POINTE with this stupid injury. My only gratification was getting to dance and take bows with my best friend on stage and going out into the audience to have dozens of girls and boys hug me and ask for pictures. One little boy said “I like it when you do that.” I don’t know what ‘that’ was but it was still adorable.
So now I’m once again icing my foot so that I may do two FULL shows tomorrow and one on Sunday.
Yay pain….
PS: My mother kindly filmed my dances so I will be posting them soon for you to enjoy.
I added the bold emphasis. :3
Brodie, girl, you are an inspiration. You have the desire to win and do well.
I want to see the dance. <3
