I might have a small obsession with bikes. Ok? Leave me be.

New Year’s Resolutions!

Alright, I’ve never really been a huge fan of resolutions, because to me resolutions are some big grey thing that isn’t a concrete idea. More of a thought. Be more healthy. Do more this. Do less that. I am always unsure how to plan that out. I need a plan.

I do, however, make goals for the new year. I can handle goals. I can lay out a plan to accomplish goals.

THINGS I WANT TO DO:

  1. Run a marathon- Ok, I still haven’t signed up for Mercedes. Training got a little derailed because of my getting sick, but if I can get in a long run this weekend I should be back on track. The only thing is the cost. It’s roughly $80, and to me that’s a lot of money. I’m also going to be competing in triathlons this spring. Entry fees are expensive. Along with the fact I have to renew my membership to USATri and I’m going to get a USACycling thing- Note to self: Talk to prez to see which one I need-
  2. Start racing on my road bike- I GOT PEDALS I CAN RACE- I would like to do well in at least one of them. There’s a whole metric ton of strategy and rules I need to learn. LET’S DO THIS!
  3. Do a 5k in under 25 min, Race official. -I’ve done it on my own, but I want a race verified time. Ya know?
  4. Olympic time 2:35:00 -A girl can dream, yeah?
  5. GET TO BE A BETTER RUNNER- It’s my one hang up. I am a poor runner. If I could drop half a minute off my pace, it would make a world of difference.
  6. IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN!!!!! -Yeah. I really want to do this one. So badly. I’m pretty much to the point that if Greg and Rick back out of the race, I’ll do it anyway. I’m not afraid of doing it alone.

Anyone else have any big goals for the year?

I think I found a full iron distance race that I like better than Louisville.

Holy crow this one looks cool. :’D

I gotta convince my race friend to do this one with me.

It’s cheaper than Louisville, too. By $300. We could actually afford a nice hotel with the difference.

AND IT IS THE DAY AFTER MY BIRTHDAY, WHICH IS KINDA COOL

Been having some issues with shin splints here recently with the increased mileage on my runs. I went against my belief that **thought bubble** “compression socks really can’t provide that much support”
Wow, was I wrong. They have helped my shin splints tremendously!
I would probably wear compression socks if I could find them in awesome colors like this…
Black isn’t bad…
but I really want blue ones.
Bright blue ones. owo
Must go research that now

Time to pick my Ironman race.

I have two options.

Both will be in 2013.

My first option, and the one I’m most likely to do, is the Ironman FL 2013. It’s the first weekend in November.

Pros:

  • My team volunteers there every year, so all of them would be there cheering me on when I pass their station/area. This means my friends would get to go
  • I’m guaranteed to get a spot in the race; volunteers get to register first on Sunday morning, and I am volunteering there this November.
  • I know the course forwards and backwards; I worked there last year and my good friend from the team has done it, so he knows it too. I doubt there would be too many drastic changes
  • FLAT RUN AND FLAT BIKE
  • Would give me time to get in another 70.3 in the July next, so I could travel again in the summer.

Cons:

  • It’s after my 21st birthday. I really want to get an ironman done before I turn 21…. However, it’s quite literally 10 days after I turn 21… so meh.
  • IT IS SO FAR AWAY! D: Seriously! 14 months from now!
  • OCEAN SWIM THAT IS TWO LAPS! BLARG SWIMMING THE SAME THING TWICE IN A RACE SUCKS

Option 2:

Louiville KY 2013

Ok. Basically the only reason I want to do this one is because it’s at the end of August and then I could take a month off and then be ready to get back in the swing of things for the collegiate race season.

And I’m impatient.

I don’t really want to wait until next November to do this race….

And typing it all out makes me realize how much smarter it is to do FL over KY, but meh.

I guess getting in that 70.3 in Muncie IN next summer would be pretty fun….

Ok. I guess I have picked it, then.
