I just wanted to share with you all the crazy, nasty, tangled mess that was my hair after the race. It took me 45 min in the shower with conditioner to get all taken care of. :/
And for comparison:
My hair is naturally straight and my pony tail typically goes to the bottom of my sports bra…
ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU NEED SUPPORT IN YOUR SHOES.
Ungh
I’m looking at you, Nike Free products. Siiigh
I AM SO HAPPY!
The last time I tried a 16 miler, I bonked- hard. Then two days later was Christmas, and two days after that I ended up in the hospital. (Yay, stomach bugs!)
I’m way behind on my marathon training, but this makes me slightly optimistic. Yes my run was slow, but I did it!
I actually went out to the store and bought more Gu for this run. I only used two while on the run, and one before. I know a lot of people dislike Gu, but I don’t. It helped this time. And I KNOW that I need to start incorporating calories in my workouts, especially the long ones.
Now, I’m off to watch football. :]
*I have been cycling and doing yoga regularly during the run-hiatus. It isn’t like I sat on my bum the entire time…
Alright, I’ve never really been a huge fan of resolutions, because to me resolutions are some big grey thing that isn’t a concrete idea. More of a thought. Be more healthy. Do more this. Do less that. I am always unsure how to plan that out. I need a plan.
I do, however, make goals for the new year. I can handle goals. I can lay out a plan to accomplish goals.
THINGS I WANT TO DO:
- Run a marathon- Ok, I still haven’t signed up for Mercedes. Training got a little derailed because of my getting sick, but if I can get in a long run this weekend I should be back on track. The only thing is the cost. It’s roughly $80, and to me that’s a lot of money. I’m also going to be competing in triathlons this spring. Entry fees are expensive. Along with the fact I have to renew my membership to USATri and I’m going to get a USACycling thing- Note to self: Talk to prez to see which one I need-
- Start racing on my road bike- I GOT PEDALS I CAN RACE- I would like to do well in at least one of them. There’s a whole metric ton of strategy and rules I need to learn. LET’S DO THIS!
- Do a 5k in under 25 min, Race official. -I’ve done it on my own, but I want a race verified time. Ya know?
- Olympic time 2:35:00 -A girl can dream, yeah?
- GET TO BE A BETTER RUNNER- It’s my one hang up. I am a poor runner. If I could drop half a minute off my pace, it would make a world of difference.
- IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN!!!!! -Yeah. I really want to do this one. So badly. I’m pretty much to the point that if Greg and Rick back out of the race, I’ll do it anyway. I’m not afraid of doing it alone.
Anyone else have any big goals for the year?
Don’t send me emails saying that rankings are up if they aren’t!
I want to know where I am!
Anyone know why I don’t show up anywhere, ranked or unranked, when I search by my age group, but when I enter my USAT number I show up immediately with a score and everything??
Last week was what I thought was a 14 mi run. I had looked at the wrong week on my calendar. It was only supposed to be a 12 mi run. Instead of being a normal derp and just doing the 12 mi like my plan told me to, I got out there and kept going. I reached mile 10 and looked around, realized it was a beautiful day, and thought about how 13 miles isn’t really that much more than 12, and I would be getting closer to the 14 I had planned on doing.

Alright! Glad that’s over.
Too much rich foods. My tummy hurts. And I’ve got sugar headaches like crazy. I need to learn to not scarf it all down.
Haha.
ANYWAY
Marathon training update!
Wednesday was strength and core training. There were a lot of people at the gym when I went, and I got a little too competitive, and I’m still sore today. Oh well.
Thursday I ran a nice, fast for me, 5mi run. Not bad, considering I hurt the entire time. TOO MUCH WEIGHTS.
Today, R&R and yummy foods. I’m ok with this, because tomorrow I will be attempting a 14mi run.
These long runs are getting crazy. x.x
BUT I CAN DO IT. I MAY COMPLAIN THE ENTIRE TIME BUT I WILL DO IT
That’s all.
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday. If anyone doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, then I hope your week was good and this weekend is better.
Ok! So basically I’ve been slacking off a little bit the past week because schedule has been CRAZY.
My car has been in an out of the shop, and so has my bike, so between the two of them I’ve been WALKING to the far ends of the city in order to get everything taken care of.
Yesterday, Friday, was cross training. I had a nice set planned out, but when I got in the pool I wasn’t in the mood to do a bunch of 500s. Instead, I did my normal 500 warmup, drills, a 500 pull, and then a nice 1650. It’s been way too long since I’ve done one of those. It felt good to just do it straight through. I had forgotten how much you talk to yourself between the walls. Anyway, after that I just did drills. Ended up being a little over 2 miles. Not bad, but not great. Oh well.
This morning I got up and made my lazy butt do 10mi. WOOT! It felt pretty good! :] So far that’s the longest run of the training program. Next week’s long run will only be 8, but I might do 10 again, because the trail here is 5mi for one loop. OH! Forgot to mention that I had to head home to watch the dogs while my family is traveling to my sister’s swim meet.
Anywho.
I was running in my tank top and shorts, and of course my USAT hat. I love that thing. It makes me feel like a bad-ass. Haha. Everyone else looked at me like I was crazy. Everyone else was either in long sleeves, long pants, or both. Many had ear warmers and gloves. Wimps. I loved it. I wasn’t cold at all. It was PERFECT. I typically hate the cold, but I love it when I have to run. If it’s sunny, it doesn’t matter how cold it is; it’s amazing.
So now that I’ve done that, it’s time to clean up the house and hang with a friend and watch football. I love a good, Southern Saturday.
Lost count of the days! Oh well!
Anyway, today was an easy 5 mi run that turned into a fast 6 mi run. Yay! I felt great, the weather was great, the hills weren’t as killer as they have been, absolutely everything fell into place!
I’m really not looking forward to my long run tomorrow because of the fact that it is game day.
Game day means people out on the quad, cooking.
Cooking means lots of smells.
The smell of cooking meat when I run is enough to make me sick, literally. I get nauseous and uncomfortable and lightheaded and other really un-happy-making things.
It’s happened several times in different races. Not sure why, it just does. It’s worse in the heat, but during a Turkey Trot last year (Thanksgiving, and it was bitter cold) I nearly threw up.
Anyway, hopefully if I get out on the road early enough it won’t be a problem.
In other news, I’m actually back on my training program! I was way off track thanks in partly to my volunteer trip to IMFL. That was fun, but having to rearrange three days of training was a pain. Oh well. All is right with the world at the moment.
I’m back to taking this one mile at a time. :]
