I’m super pumped!
I’m also pumped that I get out of my Aerobics class on Thursday. Seriously, that’s about as far from aerobics as I think is possible. The class yesterday made us do a total of 120 calf raises, 140 squats, 140 lunges, and 30 burpees. Wow. It’s great, but it hurts!
Also yesterday, I took myself on several wonderful dates. First was a scenic bike ride. Only 30 miles, just around 20 mph. So that was great. Then I took myself to the gym where we got all hot and sweaty…. in the weight room (upper body, because why not?), then I gave myself a new book and spent several hours reading. It was a great night with myself. I know how to treat a girl. ;]
Today’s swim was killer. I loved it, but it was insane. I’m also very glad that I get to skip next Friday’s swim…. it looks scary…
Anywho! I probably need some advice on racing tactics for next week. I’m the low of the low as far as categories go. So who knows what will happen. :’D
“We have an hour long race, at a world class level, and we call it a sprint”
1) Adjust your training schedule
2) WEIGHT TRAIN! :’D But do it in a way that isn’t for body building. Build strength for your sport, not for show.
3) Don’t you dare drop your fast workouts. Don’t. Do. It.
4) Don’t wear yourself out!
5) Be smart in planning your workouts
6) Focus on your weakness!
For me, this means that I’m working on my running a LOT this winter, keeping Cycling pretty high up there, and keeping swim to a maintenance level.

Been having some issues with shin splints here recently with the increased mileage on my runs. I went against my belief that **thought bubble** “compression socks really can’t provide that much support”
Wow, was I wrong. They have helped my shin splints tremendously!
I would probably wear compression socks if I could find them in awesome colors like this…
Black isn’t bad…
but I really want blue ones.
Bright blue ones. owo
Must go research that now

I AM THE QUEEN OF ENERGY GELS!
Haha. This is my race stuff for this weekend in Cali. No, I don’t actually use that many gels. I might have one, depending on how I’m feeling, on the bike portion.
They were just giving out so many of them yesterday that I couldn’t resist!
Ps. Really wish we had a two piece Tri suit. This one fits funny. :/
So yesterday was rainy and I really didn’t want to go ride, so I went to the gym and did a lower body set. I did more than I had done in a long time, and I had used more weight than I had in a long time. Mostly because I didn’t really plan on getting up and into the water this morning.
However, this morning I did get up and moving when my alarm went off. It was the strangest thing.
At the pool there are two people who I haven’t seen before, but my coach knows them. We get in the water, do our warm ups, and then get down to the main set. It’s mostly sprinting. Every push off the wall hurts like crazy, but I did this to myself, so I just put up with it. I finished way ahead of the chick in the lane next to me every time. I was always leading the man sharing my lane, and the last of the 100 sprints I finished a body length ahead of him.
After practice my coach told me something pretty crazy.
Both of them are Kona triathletes. The guy has gone twice, and the woman is going to go for the first time.
What?
How in the world was I keeping up with them?
And then when I was thinking, I realized how sad it is for me.
I’m a decent swimmer, but a very average triathlete.
I guess that just shows how little the swim actually really matters in the entirety of the race.
Upsetting, but whatever.
I beat Kona racers in practice. I’ll take that as a positive for the day.
My swim is coming back together. I’m starting to feel strong in the water again.
Another thing. My coach told me that I shouldn’t feel bad about only doing 40 mi on the bike, because the course I like is hard enough that the 40 I do is equivalent to 50-60 mi on normal roads. Suddenly I feel a lot more prepared for the race in September. :)
